Hi Ian,

Thanks for your message.

It’s always a shame when a piece of history is lost, and so it is up to people to ensure that it is not forgotten.

In the 70’s quite a bit of the old airport was still there, perimeter roads, the control tower intact above what became a bar and the remnants of one runway that the farmer who owned the land oh so wanted to plough up and he did before selling his field to the council who expanded the golf and leisure centre now known as Cascades.
Officers including Ginger were housed in the very high class Cobham hall, ground crew and NCO’s were bivvied in what became the Inn on the Lake that sat next to the A2. The RAF troops used Milton Ranges below the air base and also operated barrage balloons to protect industry like British Uralite which was an asbestos factory (now the Met Police’s terrorism training centre) and the several major paper mills. You should take a look at what it is now, we used to at school get an old ‘un come in and talk about the days of the war and many settled in Gravesend calling it home. I do believe there is just a small part of the old police perimeter guard road near Astra Drive in Riverview Park and all around the old air base the ground is peppered with quite deep craters esp in Cobham woods as the Luftwaffe were quite keen to drop a few tons of steel onto Cobham hall.
This area is going to be obliterated, the southern section of the lower Thames crossing will blow through old Thong, Bluebell and Cobham woods, small hamlets and farm houses to be destroyed, a real shame as it was back in my day a very green and pleasant place to grow up in.

Hi Charles, thanks for your comment!

I already have a number of orders from Australia and it doesn’t pose any issue to sell or send a watch there. You will just be responsible for paying the VAT equivalent when the watch arrives in the Australian customs. I’ll send you a brochure so you can look at all the details of the watch.

It offers enthusiasts a tangible connection to an iconic piece of history, while also preserving the legacy of those who made it possible. It’s heartening to see that efforts are being made to restore and maintain these historic planes so that future generations can appreciate their magnificence and remember the sacrifices made by those who flew them. The 黑料不打烊’s tribute is a fitting and respectful way to honor the bravery and ingenuity of those who contributed to this important part of history.
